Baseball is known as America’s favorite pastime, and for good reason. With the end of the 2022 baseball season on the horizon, it’s never too early to start talking about the MVPs in baseball right now. Today, we’re going to be talking about the best Major League Baseball players of today.

Willson Contreras, Chicago Cubs

While catching is definitely a more defensive position, there’s something to be said about Willson Contreras’s talent. Currently, there are only three catchers in baseball with more than five home runs, and Willson is one of them.

Paul Goldschmidt, St. Louis Cardinals

As of right now, Paul Goldschmidt is tied for first in the league for On Base Percentage with .413, and he’s second in the league for Batting Average with a .328 batting average. He’s one of the best infield defenses in the league today, and it definitely shows– though the walk-off grand slam against the Toronto Blue Jays is also a factor.

Aaron Judge, New York Yankees

Aaron Judge is an absolute monster on the field, leading the league with 45 home runs and 99 RBI. Not only that, but as of right now, he’s also leading the league in Slugging %– .681, On Base + Slugging %– 1.077, and Runs Scored– 94. Putting Aaron on this list was an easy decision.

Justin Verlander, Houston Astros

Justin Verlander is another easy pick for this list, and an inspirational one, at that. Justin had pitched in only one game after the 2019 World Series until the start of this season and is currently leading the league in Wins (15) and Earned Run Average (1.85). In his first eight starts, he threw 51 ⅔ innings. This is the kind of thing that you write movies about.

Manny Machado, San Diego Padres

Manny Machado is one of the best 3Bs in baseball right now. In his first 22 games of the season, he had 32 hits. Not only that, but back in April, Machado had a five-hit performance in an incredible game against the Braves, only to add another three hits the next night. In the six games he played against Cincinnati, he went 14-for-23 (.609) with two home runs.

Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Angels

Putting Shohei Ohtani on this list of top Major League Baseball players is one of the easiest decisions. In fact, last year, Ohtani was the 19th unanimous MVP in Major League Baseball history. While he might not be on top of his game for this season, he’s still throwing an incredible game, striking out 14.0 batters per nine innings. Not only that, but he’s also on pace for a second straight season in the 25HR/25-SB club.
