Baseball has always been America’s favorite pastime, and the biggest reason for that is the tendency for intense, monumental moments to occur on a regular basis. While the list of MLB’s (Major League Baseball)greatest moments in history will always be a subjective one, listed here are some of the strongest contenders. It’s the unique, historically significant, and inspiring moments that we tend to remember the most clearly and for the longest time.

Babe Ruth Calling His Shot

There’s no name in baseball history more recognizable than The Great Bambino, Babe Ruth himself, and perhaps no moment that he’s remembered for more than when he called his shot in the 1932 World Series. With two balls and two strikes on him, he paused in the batter’s box and pointed with his hand toward the centerfield fence. As the tale goes, he then proceeded to hit a towering homerun right in that spot, forever cementing the moment as one of baseball history’s greatest.

Willie Mays’ Famous Catch

There was another unforgettable World Series moment in 1954, during the first game between the New York Giants and the Cleveland Indians. With a tie game in the eighth inning and two runners on base, center fielder Willie Mays made an incredible running catch over his shoulder while sprinting towards the fence. To this day, many consider the catch to be the greatest of all time.

2004 American League Championship Series

In 2004, the Boston Red Sox hadn’t won a World Series in 86 years, and they were down three games to none in the best of seven series against the New York Yankees. However, with nearly the whole world rooting for them, they went on to win the next four games in a row in incredible fashion and then sweep the St. Louis Cardinals in four games to finally win it all. They were the first team in history to come back and win a playoff series after trailing by three games.

These are just but a few of the many amazing, memorable moments in the history of the great game of baseball. New, unforgettable moments are occurring with each new season, and with them, stories that will be recounted for generations to come.
